Concorde
Kev DarlingFor twenty-seven years Concorde was the Queen of airliners. The product of years of research, and enormous monetary investment, the joint effort of the French and British aircraft industries first flew in 1969. Its first commercial flight was in 1976, making supersonic flight available to anyone who could afford the fare. Concorde was never a commercial success, bit it caught the imagination of millions: its withdrawal from service in 2003 was, for many, an occasion for mourning. Aviation writer Kev Darling's complete history of Concorde's development and service also includes detail about other, stillborn, supersonic airliner projects and the Soviet Tu-144 "konkordski". Richly illustrated, and with up-to-date information on Concorde's disposal, this is a fitting memorial to one of Aviation's greatest achievements.
